Walk Brighton

A vibrant mapping system for a city with a distinct personality

Brighton is a city with a distinct personality. It is creative, vibrant, and independent. Applied developed a comprehensive wayfinding strategy for Brighton & Hove City Council, creating a cohesive system that seamlessly supports visitors and residents navigate and explore their surroundings.

Built around a master map, the system was designed to reflect Brighton’s unique feel and brand identity across print, signage, mobile and online platforms. This map became the foundation for a dynamic family of maps used within street signage, as well as hotel guides, event maps, a mobile app and downloadable walking maps available from the Visit Brighton website.

With an instantly recognisable mapping style, the system builds trust with visitors and locals alike, reinforcing Brighton’s identity across every touchpoint.

A cohesive identity

Mapping was designed to reflect the feel of the city and its brand across all touchpoints. The striking design creates a city identity that is ubiquitous in print, on the street, on mobile and online.

Launch of the system

The first major application of the system launched with a network of on-street pedestrian signs. Applied led the information design, as well as the full delivery process, from strategy, to manufacture and installation.

Brighton in your pocket

In addition to printed and on-street signage, Applied developed and released a free to download WalkBrighton iPhone application.
