Footways

Inspiring people to enjoy urban walking

Footways is a social enterprise creating digital and printed maps that highlight enjoyable walking routes in London. Their carefully constructed network of London’s most interesting streets encourage people to walk further and explore more as they get from A to B.

Applied has been working with Footways to design their series of specialist printed maps. With a distinctive style, each map covers a borough or area of London, highlighting features to help people discover the city's hidden corners, green spaces, historic landmarks and architectural gems.

Specialist mapping

Footways has its own series of maps and also produces bespoke commissions for private clients and councils. Applied tailor the approach to each map scope, while maintaining the striking design and colour scheme now established as the Footways style.

Learn more about the maps

Maps of central London, Hackney, Clerkenwell, Camden, Westminster, London Heritage Quarter, a ‘Green Link’ urban trail and Homerton hospital have been created.

Colour selection for lithographic print

Applied advises on colour selection, working collaboratively with Footways and the printer, to ensure routes and features are legible for users and able to be printed through a five spot colour lithographic printing process.

Supporting local communities

As well as being valued for their aesthetic appeal, the maps promote communities, local culture and history, boosting footfall along high streets and increasing walking for leisure.

Collectable

With their unique style and the high-quality lithographic print, people are keen to own sets of them. Each time a map is released they sell out fast and reprints are done.
