Applied + Disegno presents ‘Re-routing the City’, a podcast series exploring how navigation, transport and travel are changing in our cities. And how we can best adapt. The series looks at the neuroscience of how we navigate, asks if the current rules of the road work for the future, and explores what new technology can do to help disabled people move around as easily as everyone.
Host India Block will engage in conversation with Applied’s founder, Tim Fendley and Applied’s Creative Director Ruth Ross-Macdonald. They are joined by expert guests for each episode.
Launching on 25th September, the podcast series will kick off with a discussion on navigating neuroscience and understanding how our brains conduct complex cognitive processes based on sensory input that may help (or hinder) us in finding our way. India and Tim will be joined by Dr. Kate Jeffery, who is the Head of School of Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow.
In the next episode, host India is once again joined by Tim and guest Julia Thrift, who is Director of Healthier Place-Making at the UK’s Town and Country Planning Association. They explore the relationship between motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, and whether we need to create a new road etiquette and, if so, how this might look and function.
The final episode will focus on wayfinding solutions that prioritise accessibility needs. As cities become smarter, new navigation technologies can create opportunities to improve and guarantee safe, comfortable mobility for all. Hosted by India, this episode features Applied’s Creative Director Ruth Ross-Macdonald and guests to discuss the role of technology in designing accessibility into our urban spaces.
The podcast will be available through Disegno's website, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
