About the role

We’re looking for someone to join our business development team.

You will be fiercely organised and have a deep sense of inquisitiveness. Ideally, you'll also write well. Your job is to understand our clients' worlds, to help us connect and engage with who we will be working with. 

You will have a close relationship with Applied’s leadership, work closely with the communications team and get to know and work with everyone in the company. It’s a role for someone who wants to be in the middle of things. 

The role of the Business Development Associate is to analyse our clients and uncover opportunities to work with them. It is to drive topical themes that resonate with the things that most preoccupy our clients.

The role involves:

  • Supporting the sales and business development efforts, 
  • Initiating engagements, 
  • Responding to enquiries, 
  • Coordinating the bid process and
  • Looking after our databases of contacts, case studies and background details.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Identify new business opportunities: Conduct market research to identify potential clients and new business opportunities.
  • Responding to enquiries: Researching requests and the background to clients and situations and co-ordinating the qualification process.
  • Coordinate the bid process: Manage and coordinate the bid process from start to finish, including reviewing bid requirements, coordinating with the internal team to develop bid strategy, writing proposals, and submitting proposals.
  • Tender portal management: Managing our accounts for all major tender portals. Ensuring we are aware of and being notified of key opportunities.
  • Write proposals: Working with our technical specialists, to deliver clear, concise, and persuasive proposals that articulate the value proposition of the company and address the specific needs of the client.
  • Collaborate with practitioners, partners and the communications: Work closely with these people to develop marketing materials, presentations, and other collateral to support the bid process.
  • Manage client database: Maintain a comprehensive database of clients, bid requests, proposals, and client information.
  • Conduct post-bid analysis: Gather feedback from internal stakeholders and clients to help inform future proposals and improve the bid process.
  • Research: Research and analyse new markets, clients and opportunities.
  • Deliver: Create original content to help establish Applied as the industry leader in this field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in bid writing and business development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferably a prolific writer / editor. With an ability to understand requests and details and summarise succinctly.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Google workplace/Microsoft Office. 
  • Ideally, confidence and experience in Adobe InDesign is a plus.
  • Ideally, strong presentation skills are a plus.
  • Ideally, familiarity with CRM and pipeline management tools

Overall, you are someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You’ll have a strong understanding of the sales process, excellent communication and writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
